Mouth restrictions like tongue-ties and lip-ties can have a detrimental impact on an individual’s life. Whether it is an infant trying desperately to breastfeed or an adult still struggling with speech issues, lip and tongue-tie correction can offer relief and improved overall health.
At South Carolina Tongue Tie Center, we are tongue-tie and lip-tie specialists, offering safe, quick and minimally-invasive laser surgery for the treatment of mouth restrictions.
Minimally-Invasive Lip
and Tongue-Tie
Laser Surgery
The release of a tongue-tie or lip-tie can be performed using surgical scissors, but this can cause excess bleeding or scar tissue formation. At South Carolina Tongue Tie Center, we utilized a dental laser that is more accurate and precise to completely release the tongue or lip frenulum. The procedure takes less than a minute to perform – infants can usually be treated without any anesthesia or sedation, but children and adults may require anesthesia. There is little to no downtime or recovery for the treatment, only limited activities due to sedation if necessary.
Dr. Caitlin McPherson and our entire team at South Carolina Tongue Tie Center are dedicated to providing relief for patients with lip and tongue-ties. Most of the patients we treat are infants and toddlers who are struggling to live their best life due to a small congenital defect. Tongue-ties and lip-ties can restrict mouth movement, making it difficult to perform necessary functions like nursing, swallowing and verbal communication. There is no reason for babies, children, teens or adults to live with this condition when it is completely treatable with a brief laser procedure.
After a quick tongue-tie or lip-tie release procedure, infants can learn to latch correctly during breastfeeding. This can help reduce discomfort for them and their mother and shorten feeding times. For kids and adults, tongue and lip-tie correction can improve appearance, speech, confidence and overall health.
